McLaughlin Farm Ltd was a premier provider of grass fed, grass finished beef in Michigan.
The McLaughlins subscribe to: If you are what you eat, then healthy cattle are essential to healthy families, and healthy cattle come from healthy pastures. They also believe that beef is the best source of quality nutrients required by the body.
Healthy Cattle, Healthy Consumers
“I could tell the difference in your beef on the first bite!” That’s the type of testimonial we heard on a regular basis.
McLaughlin Farm: Local Producer of Grass Fed Grass Finished Beef
McLaughlin Farm Ltd was a local producer of naturally raised, grass fed, grass finished, dry aged beef. The farm was located in Jackson Michigan and raised Highland Cattle and other breeds of cattle (primarily Red Angus or Red Angus crosses).
The cattle were humanely raised and processed. McLaughlin Farm did not utilize growth stimulants or hormones. The cattle were rotationally grazed and in open pastures, not confined to feed lots.
The farm produced its own winter forage consisting of baelage and dry hay. The cattle were not fed any grain, they were raised within the USDA “grass fed” standard.
The farm was originally a working dairy farm, purchased by John’s grandparents in 1932. The milking operation continued until the mid-1950s. A decade later several of the unused facilities were torn down, including the milk barn, due to the high cost of maintenance.
In 1980, John and Cathie bought the farm and shortly thereafter reintroduced livestock, including beef cattle, horses, sheep, chickens, turkeys, as well as goats and pigs. They retired at the end of 2023.
